DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Gus Macker basketball tournament has been relocated this year. The event is moving from downtown Buffalo to Darien Lake this year.
The annual three-on-three tournament will be held at Darien Lake on July 19 and July 20.
There will be free parking and free admission for participants. The tournament was held in downtown Buffalo for years but recently event organizers said the event had become too costly to remain in Buffalo.
The Gus Macker attracted thousands of players and nearly 50,000 spectators to downtown Buffalo in previous years.
What a fucking joke! The Gus Macker is one of the highlights of the summer in Buffalo, New York. What kids from the city are going to want to go to Darien Lake to play in a basketball tournament? Does the metro makes its way there? The Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL) should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen. The fact that someone in Buffalo could not donate the money to keep the national tournament in front of city hall.
I know for sure I am not going to be making the 45 minute drive to chirp at players as I stand on the sideline and watch white kids get destroyed by the more athletic black kids. If they are doing this because they cannot afford to pay the cops to protect and serve then that is a problem. Turning cheap after how many years the Macker has been here is a huge mistake. My summer will not be the same without the Gus Macker in 2014.
