ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, the team’s first-round draft pick, signed his rookie contract Wednesday.
Watkins was selected fourth overall. The Bills included their 2015 first-round pick in a trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up from the No. 9 pick to draft Watkins.
Watkins set career records at Clemson with 240 receptions and 3,391 receiving yards. He also tied former teammate DeAndre Hopkins with 27 career touchdowns for the most in school history.
Always a good thing when you can sign your first round draft pick early. Nobody wants to deal with all the off the field bullshit. Some people say the Bills gave up way too much for Watkins, but he was the best wide out in the draft and is the game changer Bills fans have been waiting for since….Andre Reed? The former Clemson Tiger signed a four year deal worth $19.9 million including a $12.8 million dollar signing bonus.
Is Watkins the answer? No, but he is a large piece to the puzzle. He should make things easier on second year quarterback EJ Manuel. With the weapons of Watkins, Woods, Goodwin, CJ and Freddy, this should be a fun offense to watch. All things rest on the shoulders of the quarterback and everyone knows that.
Welcome to Buffalo Sammy!
