Some history today in college football as it marks the first college football playoff games. We all know the four teams. Oregon and Florida St battle it out first, and then Ohio St looks to upset Alabama. So if you are looking to win some easy money heading into the weekend, go with my picks.
#2 Oregon vs #3 Florida State – 5pm EST – Rose Bowl – Oregon -7.5
Jameis Winston has not lost a game in two seasons at Florida St. Marcus Mariota is the Heisman award winner. Does any of that matter? It all depends on how you look at it. Win or lose, the Seminoles are going to keep this game close. They play down to the level of the competition as we witnessed during the regular season, but when the lights come on, Winston produces. The Seminoles were down 21-10 at halftime last year in the BCS National Championship game. If Oregon finds themselves down, do they know how to come back? They weren’t able to against Arizona, and they are usually up by double digits late in the game that Mariota is replaced for a back up.
James Winston remains undefeated in his collegiate career. Seminoles win.
#1 Alabama vs #4 Ohio St. – 8:30pm EST – All State Sugar Bowl – Alabama -9
This is a tough one. It is Nick Saban and Alabama. They are the Bill Belichick and New England Patriots of the college game. A dynasty. And with the addition of Lane Kiffin as their offensive coordinator, they have been able to put up some points. For Ohio St., the pressure lies on third string quarterback Cardale Jones, who started the Big 10 Championship and showed he can throw the ball around. Urban Meyer is 1-2 all time against Saban, with all of those contests coming when Meyer was at Florida. This Ohio St. team is different than those Gator teams, but the result will not change.
Alabama pulls away and covers the spread. Alabama wins big.
