Bobby Hurley Leaves For Arizona State

CBS Sports – Duke icon and Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley has reached an agreement in principle to become the next head coach at Arizona State, a source told CBSSports.com on Thursday.

A formal announcement is expected soon.

Multiple sources told CBSSports.com on Wednesday that Hurley had emerged as a serious candidate at Arizona State. At the time, two sources called the 43-year-old the “front-runner” while one suggested a deal was already loosely in place. Details of the agreement were finalized Thursday morning, according to a source.

Who would have thought? Hurley turned down the Depaul job for Arizona State? Hope he is about to get paid, because he turned down some serious cash from the school in Chicago. Herb Sendek was only set to make around $1.3 million after all incentives. UB was ready to offer close to a million. It just sucks cause the Bulls were about to be some real players next season with the talent they were returning and the players coming in. Hopefully everyone stays.

The big question here is how much longer will Coach K stay at Duke? He just won his 5th National Championship. No coach is going to come close as Boeheim got the boot. Sure there are plenty of former assistant coaches who have taken head coaching jobs elsewhere, but I just have a feeling that Hurley would have been a favorite. Does Jeff Capel know something we don’t know? The current Duke assistant turned down the Sun Devil job recently. Is he waiting and hoping for the big gig when Mike decides to step down?
